not even cooked, seared really. If you do love Kaigen I highly recommend adding Jade City by Fonda Lee! It has the same vibes and genuinely think you would like it!
of the titles i’ve read, i can say i enjoyed his dark materials even if that was nearly 20 years ago that i read them as a kid, annihilation is fantastic, still need to read the others but my partner could talk for hours on them
aside from that i wish you a huge amount of luck to enjoy what you read/watch from this list
you’ve also reminded me i need to keep reading berserk lol
I did NOT know there was a Les Miserables anime. I especially loved His Dark Materials and Vagabond, so I’m glad you’re going for those. For recommendations, I’d say the Bleach manga and my favorite niche fantasy series, A Chorus of Dragons.
Thanks for the recs! Bleach is the only one of the Big 3 I haven't gotten around to yet, so it's definitely something I want to read whenever I get the time
Very ambitious list! I hesitate to suggest anything add to it, but given that it was solicited, would recommend Dostoyevsky (I don't think you've read him before?).
Honestly, the man never wrote a bad word, all of his books are worthwhile. My favourite might be The Idiot, which I think you might also like. It has very to the point feminist (/quasi-feminist/proto-feminist) commentary (as do they all), also a lot about disability (the protagonist suffers from epilepsy, as Dostoyevsky himself did, and I read him as autistic) and social inequality generally. It had a big impact on me.
Oh that sounds right up my alley, I really want to get into Dostoyevsky at some point but it's a little intimidating. I'll add that one to the list, thanks!
Love it, Severance is all the rage rn but Succession remains my favorite TV show of all time. And Wotakoi is such refreshing watch when it comes to romcoms. I also have Paranoia Agent on my watchlist this year lol
If you haven’t seen these two anime already, I recommend checking out Life Lessons with Uramichi-Oniisan for a slice of life/comedy and Kids On The Slope for a more sentimental/coming of age story, hidden gem imo. Here’s to getting around to everything this year ٩( 'ω' )و
I’m sure I’ll love Succession, it seems so perfect for me, I just have a hard time watching hour-long shows. I watched the first episode a long time ago and it was great, but I kept getting distracted with shorter shows and I never continued watching. Hopefully this is the year I finish it.
Thanks for reminding me of these shows, I’ve heard good things about Uramichi and Kids on the Slope, I’d add them to the list!
What a fun list! I'll give my recommendations from it!
Comics: Swampthing the Alan Moore run. Must read. It is fantastic.
For movies I selfishly want you to watch War of the Rohirrim to hear your thoughts on it. Also Tokyo Godfather is a yearly holiday watch for me. I think you'd enjoy that one!
You've given me an idea to post my lists of what I'm planning on watching for Feats N' Faults this season. Or I wonder if that would give away the surprise of what I'm going to post? I kinda like the idea that you never know what might pop up.
I totally get what you mean haha I like the flexibility of just posting about whatever I got into recently, but doing something like this should hopefully help me finally get to the things that have been on my TBR for a long time
I get it. I always plan on watching something that is a bit more mainstream but then I get distracted by the weird Niche stuff that I'm drawn too lol. I'm currently 30 episodes in to a bootleg DVD I picked up of a live action Japanese Spider-Man series. I'm absolutely adoring it! It's the perfect amount of cheese, action, and drama.
Chat I think she’s cooked. But sword of kaigen is TOP TIER in the way it ripped my heart out and stepped on it for dinner, you’ll def enjoy it!
😔 agree, I'm cooked. But I'm looking forward to reading sword of kaigen, it seems great (and I do love books that make me suffer haha)

++Respect:
The Penguin will remember this.

Thank you! I'm very excited to read His Dark Materials and Anhilition :)
Writing a comment so I can come back here and give you my shoujo josei lore later because I am deeply in the know 🤣
Do you have a preference for officially translated works vs scanlation?
I don't have a preference, either way works!
I really wanna start Berserk too as well as PTSD radio. But I mostly do physical manga only and those berserk books are not cheap!
Manga is really expensive 🤧 I pretty much only read digitally because of that

You need to get on that Satoshi Kon situation asap :)
Yeah haha it’s a priority for sure
